Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is unlikely to leave St James’ Park in the January transfer window.
The 31-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club this month, but Fabrizio Romano has shared that any move is unlikely.
The striker, who is on £46k-per-week deal at the club, will not join AC Milan this month, with the Serie A giants focussing on different positions. They feel that the likes of Giroud, Okafor and Jović are doing very well at the moment, and another striker is not required at the moment.
Wilson has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid on loan in January, but it appears that the La Liga club will focus on signing Moise Kean instead.
“Callum Wilson won’t join AC Milan as their focus is on different positions with Giroud, Okafor, and Jović doing very well. Atlético Madrid will go for Moise Kean and not for Callum Wilson,” wrote Romano on X.
Newcastle have been steadfast this month about keeping key first-team players at St James’ Park for the rest of the season.
The fact that neither Atletico Madrid nor AC Milan are looking to sign Wilson will come as a boost for the Magpies. A strong offer probably could have persuaded them to do a deal, but that’s not going to happen at the moment.
The Magpies defender Kieran Trippier has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich in January, but it appears that the deal is difficult to pull off. Newcastle have rejected a loan move from Bayern Munich, and they are demanding a fee of around £12.8m.
Newcastle need to sell some of their top players at some point, possibly next summer, to comply with the PSR rules. But with the squad crippled with injuries, the Magpies boss Eddie Howe badly needs to sign a few players.
There are suggestions that Howe is keen to bring in a midfielder as a minimum before the February 1 deadline. Meanwhile, the Magpies are unlikely to sign Kalvin Phillips this month, as they are not keen to pay a loan fee for him.
