Rangers agree deal for Oscar Cortes

Rangers have reached an agreement to bring Oscar Cortes to Ibrox in the January transfer window.

Phillipe Clement has made it clear that he will remain busy in the final few days of the window, and the Bears have been linked with a host of players already.

One of them who could join the club on loan is Cortes. The Scottish Sun reported that the Gers will have the option to make his move permanent in the summer.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, a deal has been agreed between Lens and Rangers over the transfer of Cortes, subject to a medical examination. He will join on loan with an option to join the Bears permanently next summer.

While Sao Paulo showed interest, Rangers had the desire to bring him to Ibrox.

“The negotiation of Óscar Cortés (20) has already been agreed between Lens and Rangers, subject to medical examinations. It will be a 5-month loan (until June 30) with a purchase option,” wrote Sierra on X

Heart and Hand podcast, the official Rangers media partner also claimed that the interest in Cortes is “real”, and the Bears are hoping to wrap up a loan deal in the next 24-48 hours.

The winger recently joined Lens and has managed one goal and one assist in four appearances. It seems like he doesn’t have a long-term future at Lens as they are ready to offload him permanently as well next summer.

Meanwhile, Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes could leave the club this month. The 24-year-old only arrived last summer from LAFC under Michael Beale but there are suggestions that the Ecuadorian will be allowed to leave the club by Clement.

He’s made just 20 appearances in a Light Blues shirt, but his time at Ibrox could come to an abrupt end this month. Brazilian Serie A club Cruzeiro are interested in signing him, and Rangers have given them permission to speak to the player.

Rangers have already signed two players this month and Cortes could become their third signing.
