Tottenham Hotspur have been very active in the January transfer window, and they are looking to bring in more additions.
According to a report from Gavea News, Spurs are showing keen interest in signing Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes who is also being chased by other big clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.
The report claims that Spurs are preparing a substantial offer in the region of £30m for the 22-year-old midfielder as they are looking to add depth and quality in the defensive midfield areas.
If the move goes through, Brazilian club Flamengo will benefit from the deal, as they maintain 10% of the player’s economic rights.
The Brazilian midfielder, who pockets around £30k-per-week wages, has made 17 starts in the Premier League this season, and his performances have attracted top clubs in the Premier League.
Gomes is gradually developing into a class midfielder and he could be a cracking signing for Tottenham.
Spurs have already signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig while Radu Grasin has joined from Genoa. The north London club have the option to sign Werner permanently next summer.
Now, Ange Postecoglou has shifted his attention towards signing a new midfielder. In the past few weeks, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been mentioned, and he remains the top priority target for Spurs.
There have been suggestions that Spurs could also be interested in signing Kalvin Phillips on loan this month. Phillips has struggled to nail down a regular place under Pep Guardiola and he could be offloaded this month, either permanently or on temporary deals.
It makes sense for Spurs to invest in Gomes. He is a young midfielder who makes around 3.2 tackles per game on average. He is also tidy with his passing. He is yet to enter the prime years of his career, and it’s the right time to get him into the team.
