West Brom join race to sign Celtic winger Liel Abada

Celtic winger Lei Abada has found his situation challenging at Parkhead, and he has no shortage of suitors.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Championship outfit West Brom have joined the race to check if Celtic would be willing to sign the 22-year-old winger.

Apart from the Baggies, the likes of Watford, Southampton and clubs from Ligue One in France and the German Bundesliga have also shown interest in Abada.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to sell the player, who is on £17k-per-week deal at the club. However, the Isreal winger has come under pressure from his homeland over the pro-Palestinian stance of sections of the Celtic support.

The conflict in Gaza is showing no sign of relenting, and therefore, a six-month loan move could offer time his an escape route to review the situation in the summer.

Rodgers considers him as a key player for Celtic and the club have placed an arm around the winger’s shoulder to comfort him. He is a terrific player and Celtic do not find any reason to send him away on loan in January.

West Brom are also keen on Mikey Johnston as Carlos Corberan is looking to add more creativity to the side.

A move for Johnston could be on the cards. The 24-year-old winger has struggled to make an impact under Rodgers and he has received strong criticism from his manager for failing to take his opportunities with both hands.

Abada is now fully fit, and he is set to play a major role in the second half of the campaign. Moreover, Celtic have bolstered their attacking areas by landing Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna. There is a possibility that Johnston could be offloaded on a temporary deal this month.

A loan move could be more realistic as we approach the final few days of the window.
