West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer is set to join AS Monaco in the next 48 hours, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
Kehrer has struggled for regular games under David Moyes this season and he was expected to leave the club in January. French outfit AS Monaco made a move and it seems they are close to reaching a loan agreement for him.
According to a report from The Athletic, discussions are advancing over a move that will see Kehrer will spend the rest of the season in Ligue 1. Monaco will have the option to sign him permanently in the summer.
Keleher joined the club on a four-year deal from Paris Saint-Germain in 2022 for a €12m fee but he has dropped down the pecking order. As per L’Equipe, Monaco will be paying a loan fee of €500k to West Ham.
“Thilo Kehrer is expected in Monaco within 48 hours. The defender could even arrive as early as Thursday,” wrote the RMC journalist on X.
“Medical examination then signing of the contract. Paid loan with purchase option of around 10M€.”
Space for new additions?
West Ham have been punching above their weight this season and it will be interesting to see if David Moyes can bring one or two players who can make a big impact to the side.
Kehrer has failed to live up to his potential and the club have made the right decision to let him go. At least, his departure will free up the space for any new arrival this month.
Moreover, Kehrer is one of the high earners at the club, pocketing around £80k-per-week wages. He is yet to make a single start in the Premier League this season and has managed only 19 minutes of action in the league.
West Ham could also offload Said Benrahma who is also being targeted by French club Lyon.
