Adam Pope reacts to Archie Gray goal as Leeds United beat Leicester City

Leeds United scored three late goals as they came from behind to secure a massive win against Leicester City on Friday night (23 February) at Elland Road. 

It took Leeds until the 80th minute when substitute Connor Roberts levelled the tie. Teenager Archie Gray scored via a deflection that sparked pandemonium in the stands.

The last ten minutes saw Leeds creating a barrage of attack and the Foxes simply succumbed to the pressure and the atmosphere. Patrick Bamford sealed the tie for the White Dan James’ 20-yar freekick took his touch on the way into the net as Leeds won 3-1.

As a result of this victory, the Whites are firmly back in the Championship title race that looked all over only a few weeks ago. They are now six points behind Leicester City.

BBC Sport journalist Jonathan Buchan took to X to share the footage of the Elland Road celebration after Gray’s goal. He wrote: “What a moment for Archie Gray! What a night in the title race!”

Monumental moment in the title race

The goal from Gray sent the crowd wild. The atmosphere at Elland Road was electrifying throughout and it pushed Leeds to go the kill after Roberts equalised.

Gray has been outstanding for the Whites this season and the footage shows what it means to him to score and celebrate with the fans. The goal, however, was given as an own goal, as it turned out that it took a deflection of Wout Faes on the way.

The youngster, who will definitely get more chances to get his name on the scoresheet in the future, doesn’t appear to care a bit which also shows his maturity and attitude towards the game.

He played a huge part in the victory and that’s all that matters. The Whites have won all their league games in 2024 and the squad must now believe they have a great chance here to secure an automatic promotion.
