Arsenal winger Marquinhos all set to join Fluminense

Arsenal winger Marquinhos is now all set to join Brazilian club Fluminense, according to Fabrizio Romano

The 20-year-old joined the Gunners from Sao Paulo in 2022 and has made six appearances for the senior side.

He was linked with a move to his native land throughout the January window, and it seems a loan deal has been finally struck.

The player has completed his medical already and has signed a new contract as a Fluminense player. Romano says that an “announcement imminent” for loan deal.

Makes sense

The youngster joined for a fee of around £3m as part of Edu’s attempts to expand Arsenal’s connections in Brazil.

It looked promising for him at the Emirates when he scored and assisted on his debut. However, he has failed to live up to the expectations and struggled to make the grade for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The loan moves to Norwich and FC Nantes didn’t work according to plans. While he is still young, it seems Arsenal have given up on him already.

According to a report from Football London, Marquinhos will join the Brazilian club on loan with the option of extending his move permanently.

He previously attracted interest from another Brazilian club Corinthians where Edu has previously worked as director of football. Eventually, he decided to join Fluminense where he will have the opportunity to work alongside former Brazilian interim national coach Fernando Diniz.

Arsenal will look to bolster their forward department in the next summer transfer window. They have been linked with a move for Ivan Toney but Mikel Arteta could also look out for other options in the transfer market.
