Daniel Farke confirms Georginio Rutter could miss FA Cup clash v Chelsea

Leeds United could be without some key players for their FA Cup clash against Chelsea on Wednesday (28 February) at Stamford Bridge.

Daniel Farke has suggested in the pre-match press conference that ideally he would have prepared better for this game, but they have other priorities at the moment.

With games coming thick and fast in the Championship, the Whites boss may look to make several changes to the side for this game.

One player who could miss the clash is Georginio Rutter. The 21-year-old is a “major question mark” and Farke suggests that he is suffering from hip flexor.

The Leeds boss has made it clear that he won’t take any major risk that could lead to long-term injuries. In a way, he is making it clear, that players who needs more rest to recover won’t be selected.

“Major question mark over Georginio Rutter, he has some problems with his hip flexor. We won’t risk long term injuries for this game,” said Farke, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post.

Dilemma for Leeds United boss Daniel Farke

Rutter has been outstanding for Leeds this season and it makes sense for Farke to give him sufficient rest to recover.

While the FA clash against Chelsea is a mouth-watering tie, and Leeds probably would feel they have a chance of beating the Blues after their defeat against Liverpool on Sunday, Farke is in no position to prioritise the cup competition over the league.

Leeds have closed the gap at the top to six points and they will be hungry for three points in every single game from here on. Farke also confirms that Patrick Bamford, who scored in the previous game, is facing problems with calf and ankle at the moment.

Likewise, Crysencio Summerville and Dan James could miss out with minor knocks. Meanwhile, Sam Byram is fit again and he is available for selection.
