Brentford striker Ivan Toney is on the radar of Chelsea and Arsenal but none of them made a concrete move for his services during the January transfer window.
They are both expected to go after him in the summer, while more suitors could join the pursuit of the one-cap England international as he has been impressing since returning to action after an eight-month ban.
Toney has bagged three goals in four appearances since he resumed action last month, and Garth Crooks has tipped him to opt to join Chelsea ahead of Arsenal in the summer.
“It would seem, with only one year left to run on Toney’s contract, Brentford will want to cash in,” the BBC pundit said.
“Arsenal should have snapped him up the moment he had been suspended and he would have cost half of what he would cost now.
“I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he ends up at Chelsea. They are desperately in need of a top striker.”
With both clubs in dire need of a number 9, the Bees will be keen to milk the situation and demand top dollar for their 27-year-old hitman.
Toney proved himself after notching 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season, and he deserves to be playing for one of the big boys.
However, a move to a club playing in the Champions League is likely to be more appealing to the Englishman, and the Blues are unlikely to qualify for the elite European competition at the end of the season.
They are currently 10th in the Premier League table after grabbing their tenth win of the campaign against Crystal Palace on Monday night, and while there are still 14 games left, finishing in the top-four with 13 points between them and fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur looks bleak.
On the other hand, Arsenal are challenging for the title and will mostly finish in the top-four even if worst comes to worst going forward.
As a result, moving to North London could be more attractive to Toney, and Chelsea may need to offer more money to him and Brentford to have a chance of pipping the Gunners to his services.
