Jermaine Jenas raves about Liverpool forward Jota v Brentford

Liverpool secured their first win against Brentford in West London on Saturday (17 February) in the Premier League to cement their spot at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp will be very happy with the 4-1 victory but it came at a huge cost for the club, with the likes of Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota picking up crucial injuries.

In the first half, the Reds were kept quiet by Brentford but they stayed resolute and waited for the best opportunity to hurt their opponent.

It came in the 35th minute when a long ball from Virgil van Dijk opened up the space leading to a dangerous counter-attack. Jota squared the ball in the path of Darwin Nunez with an exquisite header, and Nunez finished with great calmness.

Jermaine Jenas, speaking on TNT Sport, raved about Jota, saying the header was “incredible”.

“There has been a couple of brilliant things to talk about in this goal. Yes, Brentford are trying to work something but Van Dijk just clears it. The header from Diogo Jota is incredible,” said Jenas on TNT Sport, as relayed by BBC Sport.

Liverpool injury nightmare

The Reds are already missing a host of key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Allison, Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara, and now other important players may have joined the list.

Jota has been Liverpool’s best player since the turn of the year, and he collected the Premier League Player of the Month award for January.

Jones probably have picked up an ankle injury in the first half and looked in terrible pain. He was replaced by Ryan Gravenberch. Jota was carried off the pitch on a stretcher and it looks like a nasty injury.

While Mohamed Salah has returned to action and played his part in the build-up to the second goal, Klopp will be worried by the injury situations the club will have to deal with at the moment.
