Liverpool in the hunt for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Liverpool will be heading into a fresh new direction next summer as Jurgen Klopp will leave at the end of the season.

It won’t be easy for any new manager to fill the void left by Klopp, although he may not need to follow in his footsteps. The club is strong financially and there will be a proper system in place for the next manager to operate seamlessly.

There could be major structural changes within the club. According to a report from The Times, Michael Edwards could return to Anfield less than two years after his departure, however, this time he is seeking total control of football operations at the club.

The Reds are looking to get the major appointments done at the earliest so that they have a proper structure in place to bring in quality players as per the needs of the manager.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Liverpool could be one of the clubs who could be interested in signing Marc Guehi next summer. They have been heavily linked with the Crystal Palace defender who is also being targeted by other big Premier League clubs.

Liverpool among clubs interested in Marc Guehi

The 23-year-old centre-back has been a key player for Palace over the years, and he is a regular for the England national team as well.

Guehi has undergone surgery for a knee injury and he will be out for six to eight weeks, which comes as a blow for Crystal Palace.

However, the bigger issue for Palace will be whether they can hold on to him next summer. He is on £50k-per-week deal at the club, and has two years remaining on his contract.

The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United could make a move for him in the summer, and Palace could be forced to listen to offers for him. In case he leaves, Palace are expected to demand a high price for him.

Liverpool will need a new centre-back next summer. Joel Matip will become a free agent in the summer and the Reds are unliklely to offer him a new deal.

Jarell Quansah has developed quickly and has played regularly under Klopp this season, but Liverpool need another top-quality centre-back.

Moreover, Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger and the Reds need to decide on his long-term future as well. Guehi, who has established himself as a quality Premier League defender, could be his ideal replacement.
