Oliver Glasner raves about Crystal Palace forward Matheus Franca

Crystal Palace returned to winning ways after they earned a 3-0 win against Burnley at Selhurst Park on Saturday (24 February) in the Premier League.

The Eagles played with more positivity under their new manager Oliver Glasner, amd scored three second-half goals to beat Burnley who went down to ten men.

Palace were dominant in the first half and managed six shots but they couldn’t find the net. It became easier for them when Josh Brownhill was shown the red card. Brownhill was under pressure from Jefferson Lerma, and he brought him down when he was through on goal.

Goals from Chris Richards, Jordan Ayew, and Jean-Philippe Mateta earned all three points for Palace. The introduction of Matheus Franca in the second half made the difference in the end.

The exciting 19-year-old attacking midfielder delivered a low cross for Ayew in the 71st minute, and from there he just couldn’t miss. Franca was brought down by Vitinho, and resulted in a penalty. Glasner was heavily pleased with the performance of France and said that the youngster is “excellent” in 1-v-1 situations.

“He had a big impact. He showed confidence. I spoke with him this week that he’s excellent in 1-on-1 situations but he maybe didn’t take the 1-on-1 situations as often as he could. But it’s his credit [that he took risks],” said Glasner, as relayed by journalist Dom Smith.

Positive from Crystal Palace

At this moment, Palace shouldn’t even focus on the league table. They have a massive rebuilding work to do, and they should focus on winning games at the moment and get used to the manager’s methods.

It took them more than an hour to break Burnley’s defence but they remained patient. Glasner revealed after the game that he told his players at the break to stay patient and that the chances will come.

Crystal Palace will face Tottenham Hotspur next away from home in their next game, and the London derby promises to be a cracker. Palace will pick up some confidence from this game, and they should be able to provide a strong competition.
