West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten responds to Liverpool links

West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten has told Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg that Liverpool are yet to get in touch with him.

The Reds are without a sporting director after Jorg Schmadtke’s tenure came to an end after the January transfer window.

Liverpool are now looking to recruit a quality successor who is expected to play a huge role in their appointment of a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

Steidten has emerged as one of their targets for the role, but he is continuing his good job at West Ham for now until Liverpool make a concrete approach.

“I’ve heard that I am supposed to be on the list at Liverpool,” the Hammers chief told Plettenberg.

“It is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it’s an honour. But so far nobody from LFC has contacted me yet.

“I generally feel very comfortable at West Ham. I quickly realised how intense this league is. Accordingly, we signed the right players in the last transfer window. The squad is strong, so we can achieve our goals.

“I am looking forward to facing the next weeks and months until the end of the season. Of course, we are already planning the next window. What happens to the future, we will see.”

The German previously worked for Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen before moving to the Premier League last July, and he has what it takes to succeed Schmadtke at Liverpool.

The appointment is one the Reds must get right as it would determine who replaces Klopp, and it is safe to say that is the toughest task in the world of football right now.

The Anfield club have largely gotten their recruitment right in recent transfer windows, and they need that to continue going forward as they build on their successes under Klopp.

They have also been linked with former RB Leipzig director of sport Max Eberl, and more names are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
