Chelsea face concrete competition from Man United for Victor Osimhen

Chelsea are considered to be frontrunners in the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but they will face fierce competition as a Premier League rival enters the fray.

The Independent reports that Manchester United are planning to land the signature of the Nigerian international striker this summer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe planning to make a statement signing.

Recruitment has been at the forefront of Ratcliffe’s United takeover agenda, with the British billionaire keen to overhaul the club’s recruitment system.

Despite talks of limitations due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Ratcliffe seems determined to sanction a mega-spending spree this summer.

Osimhen has emerged as a primary target for the INEOS chairman. However, United face stiff competition not only from Chelsea but also from French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain.

One factor potentially swinging things in favour of the English heavyweights is Osimhen’s reported desire to play in the Premier League, so it could come down to a decision between Manchester and London.

Will Osimhen choose Chelsea over Man United?

Chelsea legend and Osimhen’s countryman, John Mikel Obi, has actively been pushing for the Nigerian to sign for the two-time Champions League winners this summer.

The 25-year-old has built up a reputation as one of the best strikers in Europe after leading Napoli to their maiden Serie A title in over three decades.

Osimhen was heavily linked with an exit last summer, but the outrageous demands from Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis put off prospective suitors.

In a bid to secure an exit, Osimhen agreed to sign a new contract with the Italian champions that included a €110 million release clause, which makes him available this summer.

It is understood Osimhen will demand at least €250,000 in weekly wages, so his final landing spot could depend on whichever side offers him a higher salary package.

While the size of United is enough to convince any player to choose Old Trafford over the struggling Blues, the influence of the Chelsea legend could also play a huge role in Osimhen’s final decision.
