Georginio Rutter shares what Leeds United need to do v Stoke City

Leeds United will face Stoke City in the Championship on Tuesday night (5 March) at Elland Road.

The Whites are heading into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Leeds remain the only side in the Championship who are yet to suffer a defeat at home, and Daniel Farke will be determined to make sure that record remains intact for the rest of the season.

They are also unbeaten in 2024 in the Championship, having managed 10 wins and a draw from their last 11 games.

The Whites are up against Stoke City who are fighting for survival. The battle for survival is tough at the moment, with two points separating seven teams.

Leeds lost 1-0 against Stoke City back in October, and Georginio Rutter says the Whites must not make the same mistakes once again.

What Rutter said ahead of Leeds v Stoke

“We have to be clever – not like the game before,” said Rutter, as quoted by the Mirror (page 46).

“The last time we played against Stoke it was a bit difficult because we didn’t play a good game.

“Now we have to be cleverer and more clinical because we had a lot of chances against Stoke but conceded a goal and lost 1-0.

“You can’t be like this – you have to be focused. Sometimes you can have a bit too much confidence, but everyone is ready for it.”

Leeds must stay focussed

When Rutter joined Leeds in the January transfer window of 2023, he really struggled to adjust to the pace of the league.

It felt like Leeds had made a mistake by paying loads of money for him. However, the Whites kept him in the summer, and he has proved his worth.

The 21-year-old has managed six goals and 11 assists in the Championship this season, and he has become a key player under Farke.

The race for automatic promotion is hard this season. Only a few weeks ago, it looked like Leicester City would walk away with the title as they enjoyed a healthy 12-point lead.

However, the gap has been reduced to only three points at the top. Leeds are only five points behind the Foxes as they will feel that they have a great chance here of making it to the top two.
