Jamie Redknapp baffled by Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie mistake v Fulham

Tottenham failed to move ahead of Aston Villa in the Premier League table after suffering a 3-0 defeat against London rivals Fulham on Saturday.

It was a disappointing performance from the visitors and apart from odd chances, Spurs failed to control the game, and they were quite lucky to concede more than three goals.

Jamie Redknapp was left stunned by the performance of Ange Postecoglou’s side, especially when everyone expected them to win after a moral-boosting 4-0 win against Aston Villa last week.

While analysing Fulham’s second goal, scored by Sasa Lukic, Redknapp was left baffled by Destiny Udogie’s defending as he watched the footage. The Sky Sports pundit said that Udogie has impressed him heavily this season, but on this occasion, he should have defended better.

When the ball was played out on the right, Brennan Johnson followed Timothy Castagne, but he didn’t do enough, as suggested by Redknapp. But the manner in which Alex Iwobi has beaten Udogie has left Redknapp baffled.

Tottenham need to bounce back strongly

Redknapp said: “This bit of defending and I loved Destiny Udogie this year, magnificent, come into play. This baffles me, how easily he gets beaten. Watch this, watch this bit of defending, look, gets beaten.”

Postecoglou said after the match that Spurs are not prioritising on getting into the top four, rather what matters most to him is building the foundation. The Spurs boss has done a terrific job this season, but he should definitely be aiming to get his team into the Champions League next season.

Unlike Aston Villa, they do not have other competitions to focus on. They bowed out of both cup competitions at an early stage. These players are getting enough time to prepare for the Premier League games, and surely high standards are expected of them.

At the same time, Spurs have bounced back quickly after every setback, and Postecoglou will want to see a reaction from his side when they face Luton Town next after the international break.

In other Tottenham news, Jamie Redknapp predicts whether Spurs will finish in the top four this season.
