Leeds United team news v Sheffield Wednesday: Jaidon Anthony out again

Leeds United will travel to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night in the Championship.

The games are coming thick and fast at the moment, and the players are hardly getting time to train properly.

The Whites picked up a narrow 1-0 win against Stoke City on Tuesday night (5 Match) with Dan James scoring the only goal at Elland Road.

It’s a thrilling race for the automatic promotion at the moment. Both Leicester City and Ipswich Town have picked up wins in the midweek, and therefore all eyes will be on the weekend to see if there’s any movement in the table.

Ahead of the match, Daniel Farke has shared his team news in the pre-match press conference on Wednesday. The Whites missed Jamie Shackleton in the previous game, and also Jaidon Anthony and Farke confirmed that he won’t feature for this game as well.

Anthony, the 24-year-old winger, missed the previous game due to personal reasons.

“No. I expect the more or less squad is available for yesterday. There were a few knocks and a few hits, but apart from this everyone came through,” said Farke when asked if Jaidon Anthony will feature on Friday.

Another tough game

When the two sides met early in September, the game resulted in a 0-0 draw. There’s always a feisty competition between the two Yorkshire rivals, and Sheffield Wednesday will give their all to get something from this game.

The last time when Leeds played another Yorkshire rival away from home, they ended up with a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield.

Wednesday are struggling badly in the league and they are battling for survival this season. However, there has been a massive improvement in results in recent weeks, as they have picked up five wins out of their last six games.

They have won four games in a row and are heading into this game on the back of a 1-0 win against Plymouth. So, expect them to provide a tough challenge.

For Leeds, they have to keep on winning and put pressure on the likes of Leicester and Ipswich Town. They have been in outstanding form under Farke and are undefeated in 2024, winning all of their home games thus far.
