Liverpool in race to sign PSV sensation Johan Bakayoko

Liverpool could be interested in bolstering their attacking areas in the summer transfer window.

The Reds will head in a new direction in the summer as their beloved manager Jurgen Klopp will step down at the end of the season.

Liverpool are still active in two competitions after losing 4-3 against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday at Old Trafford, but behind the scenes, the club must be chalking out plans for the summer ahead.

Michael Edwards has returned to the club in the CEO role, while the Reds are likely to appoint a new sporting director shortly.

While Liverpool are yet to appoint their next manager, it appears that the club is preparing the groundwork by identifying their targets, and as per Sky Germany journalist, Patrick Berger, they have earmarked PSV sensation Johan Bakayoko as one of their top targets.

“Bakayoko, 20, Belgian, is a summer top target for European top clubs. Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Paris and BVB are monitoring his situation. Contract until 2027, no release clause. Price tag: €50-60m€. Brentford €40m bid in winter was rejected by PSV Eindhoven,” wrote Berger.

The 20-year-old is an exciting right-winger who has dazzled for the Dutch club this season. Apart from Liverpool, other Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Manchester City are also in the race for his signature.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring his situation. He has a contract at the club until 2027 and is not protected by any release clause.

Berger says the winger should be available for a fee between £42m-51m. During January, Brentford attempted to sign the player, however, their £35m bid was rejected by the Dutch club.

The summer window is going to be tricky for the Reds. Liverpool could be tempted to sell Mohamed Salah if they receive another big offer for him from Saudi clubs. The likes of Cody Gakpo who has underperformed could face an uncertain future.

Bakayoko has managed seven goals and nine assists in all competitions for PSV and he looks like a cracking young talent. However, it’s too early to predict Liverpool’s transfer strategy next summer unless they appoint their next manager.
