Manchester United target Donyell Malen could leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer

Manchester United can look forward to ending the season on a high after beating Liverpool 4-3 in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

This has been a very disappointing campaign for the Red Devils, but the victory must have given them an extra belief to not only win the competition but to close the gap with Tottenham and Aston Villa in the top-four race.

There is a high chance that the fifth-placed team in the Premier League could feature in the next edition of the Champions League, and United should at least aim for the fifth spot.

At the same time, they are also looking at players who can improve the squad, and signing an attacking midfielder is a priority for Erik ten Hag.

According to Bild journalist, Christian Falk, both Man Utd and Liverpool are in the race to sign Donyell Malen. The Red Devils could even propose a swap deal option involving Jadon Sancho who has returned to his old club on loan.

Fabrizio Romano shares latest Man Utd transfer update

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote in his daily briefing that the Red Devils showed interest in signing Malen in the January transfer window, and there is a chance that he could leave in the summer.

However, there is no movement at the moment about signing him, but the Red Devils have a good relationship with the player’s agents. At the moment, no concrete talks have taken place, but it appears that he is one of the players who could be targeted.

He wrote: “Finally, United have also been linked again with Donyell Malen after some interest back in January. I’m told that Malen has chances to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer, but there’s nothing in terms of talks right now with any club.

“Man United have a good relationship with his agents, but at the moment there are no concrete talks taking place, so let’s see if that changes as we get closer to the summer.”

Malen has been in terrific form for Dortmund this season, scoring 13 goals this season in all competitions. He is a versatile attacking midfielder who can play across all positions upfront.

If Ten Hag stays at the club, Sancho is almost certain to depart next summer. And the Dutchman could sign his compatriot as a replacement.
