Michael Edwards close to securing Liverpool agreement

Liverpool are working behind the scenes to get the structure ready for next season and fans will be excited after what Fabrizio Romano has just posted.

Jurgen Klopp will leave the club after the end of the season, and it will be a huge task for any new manager to fill his void. However, as we have seen before, a proper system and structure can make a massive difference.

The task of a manager becomes a lot easier if he has a knowledgeable sporting director in place and someone who will oversee the day-to-day running of the club. In that case, the manager can solely focus on his players and winning games.

That’s why Liverpool are so desperate to appoint the right people and get the structure in place before bringing in a new manager.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement for Michael Edwards, the brain who helped Liverpool reach new heights.

It has been suggested that Edwards will not be just a mere transfer guru, rather he will oversee Liverpool’s football operations, although he was initially reluctant to come back.

Romano says that the final deals have been discussed, and his appointment is imminent. Richard Hughes, 51, is also “ready to accept” an offer from the Reds and join Edwards in a new look Liverpool set-up. He wrote on X:

“Liverpool are close to complete agreement to bring Michael Edwards back to the club after final attempt exclusively revealed. It’s imminent, final detail discussed — club now very confident.

“Richard Hughes ready to accept and join Edwards as part of new Liverpool structure.”

The role of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes

Edwards is looking for more power at the club, which means he will cover far broader aspects. He will be less involved in transfer dealings, rather will be in charge of club’s football operations.

If he joins the Reds, Hughes is expected to follow him. The 51-year-old will fill the vacant sporting director role. He was the technical director at AFC Bournemouth and left the role earlier this week.

Put simply, Hughes will be involved in leading transfer dealings and negotiations, and Edwards rates him highly. If Liverpool can secure a deal for both of them, it can be expected that they will push hard to bring Xabi Alonso to the club.
