Real Madrid are monitoring the situation of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid are monitoring the situation of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto.

The England international has been frequently linked with the La Liga club but they are yet to establish contact with him or his representatives.

However, Madrid remain keen and will fancy their chances if the contract talks between Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold continue to stall.

The 25-year-old is out of contract in June 2025, and both parties have been unable to reach an agreement over terms of an extension.

With manager Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of this season, the future of the versatile Liverpool star is in doubt and new director of football Richard Hughes has been tasked with ensuring the Reds academy graduate, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah all sign new deals in the coming months.

The Dutchman and Egypt international are also out of contract next year, and clubs are monitoring their situations too.

Injuries have limited Alexander-Arnold to 29 appearances across all competitions this term, but Madrid have been impressed with his quality over the years, with his ability to also play in midfield and centre-back attractive to them.

Liverpool will be desperate to hold on to one of their most important players, but the next manager could have a huge say on his future at the Anfield club.

They cannot afford to lose such a player for free next summer and will be hoping he signs a new deal as opposed to selling him in the summer, but nothing is guaranteed yet and the uncertainty surrounding his future is giving Madrid a glimmer of hope.

The La Liga league leaders remain a force to reckon with in Europe, and with Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe on his way in the summer, the possibility that Alexander-Arnold could be tempted to leave his boyhood club for them having won it all with Liverpool cannot be completely ruled out.
