Danny Murphy: Ange Postecoglou could be ideal for Liverpool

Liverpool are in the process of appointing their next manager but the Reds are taking their time to make the right choice.

The Reds are chasing Premier League and Europa League glory, and everyone is focused on giving Jurgen Klopp the perfect farewell he deserves.

Klopp will leave the club after the end of the season, and Liverpool have got the structure ready as they are trimming down the potential managerial candidates.

After missing out on Xabi Alonso, who decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool have shifted their attention towards Ruben Amorim who has been doing a terrific job at Sporting Lisbon.

Danny Murphy suggested on talkSPORT on Wednesday (3 April) that there is no such “perfect” candidate who could replace Klopp. The Reds will look at managers who can tick most of the boxes, and based on what has seen, he thinks Ange Postecoglou could be a good option.

The Tottenham manager is focused on taking the club to a top-four finish this season and Murphy admits that it won’t be easy to lure the 58-year-old away from the club as he “seems like a loyal guy”.

Murphy would love to see Postecoglou at Liverpool

“Tottenham fans would not like it but the way Ange plays I think fans would like to see Liverpool continue playing that high-energy front foot where that would be someone that a lot of people wouldn’t mind seeing,” said Murphy on talkSPORT.

“I know he is a Liverpool fan throwing it out there. Ange, in terms of football I’ve seen I think I would like to see that football at Liverpool but he seems like a loyal guy maybe he wouldn’t dream moving because Tottenham have given this wonderful opportunity.”

In football, nothing is certain, but this looks very unlikely to happen. Postecoglou is already focusing on the summer transfer window he has made his point clear on what position they need to bolster. He wants to win trophies with Spurs in the coming years.

It would be a big honour for any manager to replace Klopp at Liverpool, but Postecoglou doesn’t seem to be the kind of person who would jump the ship so easily. In terms of managerial quality and playing style, probably he would fit in nicely at Liverpool, but the Reds are unlikely to approach him.

At the moment, Amorim is emerging as the top candidate for this role, while Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is also under consideration. Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes is a big fan of De Zerbi but nothing has been finalised yet.

Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi has also been discussed as another possible option, but he is set to stay in Italy.
