Newcastle United eye move for Aaron Ramsdale

The summer window will be interesting for Newcastle United after a disappointing season.

The Magpies are expected to add quality players to their ranks but could be forced to stay within their budget. There are even suggestions that Newcastle may need to offload some of their star players to comply with FFP rules and in the process, they can rebuild the squad again.

Newcastle have been badly hurt by injuries this season, and at one point, Eddie Howe even named the starting line-up for four or five games at a stretch. The Magpies have lost some key players through injuries including goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Martin Dubravka has done a decent job in his absence. However, he is 35 and Newcastle could look to offload him as they plan for their next phase of recruitment.

According to a report from Daily Mail, Newcastle have rekindled their interest in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. He was one of the goalkeepers linked with a move to St James’ Park in the January transfer window, but the move didn’t happen.

Newcastle target Aaron Ramsdale keen to leave Arsenal

Arsenal signed Ramsdale for a fee of £30m in 2021. He was outstanding for the Gunners last season, but Mikel Arteta still signed David Raya on loan from Brentford. The Spaniard has heavily impressed this season and he is likely to make his move permanent in the summer window.

Ramsdale has made only six Premier League starts this season and he is desperate to play regular football again. The 25-year-old goalkeeper is assessing his options and Newcastle are interested in bringing him to St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe knows him very well having signed him for Bournemouth. He is a big admirer of Ramsdale who is “preparing to move on”.

Pope has been superb for the Magpies and is expected to return towards the end of this month after dislocating his shoulder. Newcastle are probably looking to bring in a young goalkeeper, and adding to the squad makes a lot of sense.

Howe can bring the best out of him again. Ramsdale has a long-term deal at the Emirates and any potential deal could depend upon Arsenal’s asking price and Newcastle’s willingness to meet that amount.
